Happy National Dog Day! What?
You didn’t know that the day after the National Parks Service’s birthday was national dog day? You’re not alone but social media definitely knows. Take a look at your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram feeds right now, they’re likely filled with adorable puppies.
We all know about the major holidays for business, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Presidents Day, etc. but are you taking advantage of National Rat Catcher’s Day? Or National Hug a Plumber Day? These random days throughout the year seem like they might just be social media fun but in reality, there is huge opportunity to build your brand in conjunction with these “holidays.”
1. Promote a holiday that relates directly to your business.
Appliance Repair companies should look at November 15 – National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. Law firms, April 12 is Be Kind to Lawyers Day! Whatever your business, there is likely a holiday you can capitalize on that directly correlates to what you’re selling. You can celebrate it on your social media, offer a one-day only coupon or even throw a customer event to bring people to your location
2. Pick a fun holiday and make it an office event.
The weird holidays are an ideal way to introduce your fans and followers to the fun team behind the brand. Have a pie party on International Pi Day (3/14) or play a game on Scrabble Day (April 13th.) Whichever day you choose, it should create fun and engaging posts on your social media accounts.
3. Jump on the trend.
This one is harder. There are holidays you don’t know are coming but end up going viral. Jumping on the trend requires a team that is willing to drop everything and get you exciting and relevant content. These are great days to take advantage of but be careful. You want to ensure what you put out there is really relevant to the day and not a sales pitch with a holiday’s hashtag added in.
Take a minute and look at the National Day Calendar to pick out your next “holiday” promotion!
